About the Goontribe
Trailblazing their way through Montreal’s club scene since the mid-nineties, MC Chops and DJ Goldenchild have since been carving out an unmatched reputation under the image of the most consistent entertainment group, the Goontribe. Expertly experienced in the industry, their younger days were spent working under promoters who have since become today’s most successful nightclub owners. Their knowledge and respect derives purely out of work ethic and the understanding that no task is ever small enough to be overlooked.
From earning their stripes as flyer boys, to eventually designing flyers, booking DJs, artists and venues, to conceptualizing some of Montreal’s most memorable events, this DJ-MC duo have worked extremely hard and have gained much acclaim and adoration while doing so. In May of 2000 they pioneered what has now become the longest running weekly club event in the city of Montreal, Tokyo Bar Sundays. With Goldenchild on the turntables and Chops on the mic, they created the perfect recipe, and party people everywhere come to enjoy the vibe.
The world-famous Maxime Magazine named Tokyo Bar Sundays with the Goontribe one of the world’s top clubbing destinations. They were continuously featured in local newsprint, and also made it on the cover of the Montreal Mirror. Their crowd-pleasing nature has gotten the attention of countless celebrities as over the years they have played for the likes of Drake, Rihanna, Chris Brown, NERD, 112, Serani, Questlove, Sean Paul, The Beatnuts, Russell Simmons, LL Cool J.
Musically, they have been nominated numerous times for Best DJ and Best MC at the Stylus Awards. Their accomplishments have helped allow them to play alongside some of the best DJs from Canada and around the world such as Starting From Scratch, Jazzy Jeff, Quesltove, Baby Yu, Wristpect, Q-Bert, and Mike Danger. They take pride in their versatility and ability to appeal to any partying demographic, their consistency matched with a grasp of change has allowed them to work with virtually every club in the city. They currently hold residencies at Muzique, Nuvo and Tokyo Bar. In the past 15 years the Goontribe have been the catalysts behind many of the biggest parties in Montreal. Not bound to nightclubs, they have numerous sold out events under their belts at the largest capacity venues in the city including Metropolis and Club Soda.
In an industry that has moved to the facebook social media age, this group has mangaged to maintain a constant street credibility.
The excitement and energy of Montreal’s celebrated nightlife flows within the veins of these two legendary entertainers/nightlife personalities. If the past is any predictor of the future, it is clear The Goontribe will continue setting the standard for clubbing entertainment and pure partying satisfac- tion.
